Last week, I had a very empowering trip to the grocery store. Yes, you read that correctly, an empowering trip to the grocery store! So here is how it goes for me and my refrigerator: I'll be in a meal prep zone and I love that zone. I'll cook up a meal or two that will last three days. I'll cook up another meal to sustain me for a few more days. Inevitably what happens though is once I cook up all the food in my fridge, I'll find myself without any groceries. I'll begin to scrounge around for food in my cupboards. This is when my meals get odd and boring. Rice, beans, frozen veggies, quinoa, avocado toast are all in the mix when I'm in the state of non meal planning. I hate this state! The food is so boring! Rice and beans for dinner?! Yea, it'll fill me up, but it's not super enjoyable to eat. I was finding myself in this zone last week. The clear solution was a trip to the grocery store. Mind you, when I go to the grocery store, I typically keep a budget in mind, around $50. This time, however, I decided to go budget-less. I needed a shake-up, I wanted to feel like I was really treating myself. I bought everything that I don't typically buy, but love- pita chips, chocolate chip morsels, shrimp, expensive granola, Icelandic yogurts, a ton of fruit, etc. I could barely fit it all in my fridge! It felt so good to have all my favorite foods. It also feels good to open up the fridge and have several meal options available. Who knew that a trip to the grocery store could provide so much positivity?
